Your other devices

Sign in with the same Flowsta identity on a second computer and Your Own AI becomes one AI world on all of them: the same AIs, the same pictures, the same memory, the same conversations. A conversation started on one computer appears on the other; a change to an AI on one shows on the rest within a minute or two.

Everything travels between your own devices through your own private network - the same machinery that keeps your records sealed, now shared by the computers that hold your identity. Flowsta's meeting point only helps your devices find each other: it learns an address and a key, never what you said or who you are. No server keeps a copy.

Adding a computer

  1. Install the Flowsta Vault on the new computer and restore your identity with your recovery words.
  2. Install Your Own AI and sign in. Settings › Devices on your first computer says the same thing: Sign in with the same Flowsta identity on another computer.

That is all. The new computer's activity tray shows one row that changes as things arrive:

  • Syncing with <your other device> - your AIs, their pictures and your memory come first.
  • Your AIs from <your other device> are here - with a Restart button. The restart brings in their conversations.
  • Bringing in your conversations from <your other device> - they open here as they arrive.
  • In sync with <your other device>.

If you skip the restart, it happens on its own the next time Your Own AI opens. With the Vault locked at that moment, the row says to unlock it and restart.

A computer that opened Your Own AI before you signed in is not left behind: its conversations join your identity after the same restart, and the tray says how many came across.

Settings › Devices

The section lists This computer and every other device that holds your identity, each with a dot:

DotMeaning
GreenIts Vault is unlocked and reachable. Changes reach it in about a minute.
GreyIts Vault is locked, or the computer is asleep or off. Changes reach it when it is back.
AmberIt needs the update to sync with this computer.

Each device says when this computer last synced a change from it ("synced 3 min ago"). Just after a start or an unlock the section says Catching up with your other devices... instead. A lock on This computer means your own Vault is locked: nothing travels to or from your other devices until you unlock it. The icons underneath name what travels: AIs, pictures, memory, documents, conversations.

The Flowsta identity card in Settings carries the same line in short, "Synced with <device> · 2 min ago", and opens the section.

What travels, and how fast

  • An AI, its picture, its knowledge, your document cards. Written to your Vault ten seconds after a change, as a small object of their own. Your other computers check for changes every minute and read only what moved, so an edit shows there in about a minute and a half.
  • Your memory. Rules, facts, decisions and session notes are entries in your own network and reach every device, even from one that is switched off, through its backup copy. See Memory that survives.
  • Conversations. Each conversation is recorded by the AI that held it, and your devices exchange those records directly. The full backup record, which lists every conversation, is rewritten at most every ten minutes and only when something changed; Back up now in Settings always writes it in full.
  • A deleted conversation is deleted everywhere: the deletion is signed into the record every device honors, and a restore keeps it deleted.
  • An archived AI is archived on every device. Deleting an AI permanently removes it from this computer only; if another of your devices still lists it, it comes back. Archive is the choice that travels.

Everything above needs the Vault on each computer unlocked. A locked Vault is waited for, not given up on.

Conversations that are still on their way

Right after a join, a conversation from another device can appear in the list before its records have arrived here. It opens read-only from your Vault's copy, marked from another of your devices, and the message box says From <device> · read-only until it arrives. The moment the records land, the copy drops out and the real conversation takes its place, open to continue.

If a copy cannot open yet, the app says why: the copy could not be read just now, this device has not joined your other devices yet (restart to join them), or the AI's records did not answer and nothing is lost.

Documents from another computer

A document you gave an AI on another device is listed on this one too, with a plain note: On <device>. Add the same file here to use it on this computer too. Its words stay where the file is. Add the file here reads the same file in, and the card links itself. Only the document's card travels, never its text - see Your documents.

Switching identity

If your Vault is switched to a different Flowsta identity while Your Own AI is open, the app says so: Your Flowsta Vault changed identity, with Restart Your Own AI and Later. Until the restart it keeps showing the AIs and conversations it opened with, and pauses online models and backups for them. After Later a strip stays at the top saying so. Switch back and restart to return.

If the meeting point is down

Your devices meet through Flowsta's meeting point, and through an open community node when that is down. If none answers, the app starts on its own and reconnects later; nothing you do waits for it.

Private AI on your machine. No one in control but you.
