Memory
Your AIs learn who you are, keep what you tell them, and recall what you have done together. Memory in Your Own AI is two things: each AI has one memory of its own, and what every AI knows about you lives in one place - Your Memory. All of it is kept in your own records, all of it is visible, every entry can be edited or forgotten, and it follows you to every device you own. Nothing is hidden from you, and no server ever holds it.
That last sentence is the difference. Every major AI service extracts facts about you and writes a profile, on its servers, over your data, and keeps the result to itself. Your Own AI runs the whole loop on your own computer - learning, recalling, tidying - and shows you the conclusion.
What memory knows what kind of thing it is
An entry is kept as the kind of thing it is, with its date:
| Kind | What it is | Where it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Rules | Standing instructions from you: "always answer in one sentence". They lead every reply's memory, ahead of the facts, and every AI follows them. | Your Memory, Rules your AIs follow |
| Facts | What your AIs have learned about you, each with where it came from | Your Memory |
| Commands and Where things are | A command that works, a file that matters | Your Memory, and a project's notes |
| Decisions | What was decided, dated | Your Memory, and a project's notes |
| Sessions | What a project session left behind, in its own words | Project memory |
Every reply's model note says what it was given: "Memory: 3 rules, 12 facts".
The two kinds, and projects
- Your Memory - the shared profile: your rules, the facts about you that all your AIs share, and what your AIs are told about you, written privately on your computer and shown on request. Opens with a row of faces: You first, then each AI with how much it keeps for itself.
- Each AI's memory - one list per AI, two kinds of entries: what you have given it and what it has learned with you. Kept for that AI alone.
- Project memory - the notes a project keeps for every AI that works in it, and what each session left behind. They belong to the project, and the project is the same project on every computer.
Where a memory comes from
A memory here is not a line in a notes file. When one is created it points at the moment in your records it came from, so an AI can ground what it recalls in your own recorded history, and you can trace any memory back to its source. A fact says "learned from your chats", "added by you", "from a signed conversation" or which import it came from.
Remember anything, anywhere
- Say "remember this" or state a standing instruction ("from now on, never use bullet points") and a card under your message asks Keep this as a rule? - Keep saves it at that moment, and every AI follows it.
- The Remember button under any reply; highlight any text in a reply and remember just that. In a project the button asks whether the note is for the project or for that AI.
- When an AI remembers something while working, the step says whose memory it went into: "Remembered for all your AIs", "for the project" or "for Teresa only". A note that corrects an earlier one takes its place, and the card says what it replaces.
- Remembering happens in the background: it never holds up the turn you are in.
Tidied while you were away
While the app is idle for ten minutes, and the computer is not on battery, a local model dates, splits and tidies your notes: duplicates merged, notes filed as the command or location they plainly are, relative dates made absolute, the oldest entries past five hundred moved to history. Rules and pinned entries are never touched. Your Memory shows every change under Tidied while you were away, each with Undo. At most once every six hours per memory, and it stops the moment you come back.
Which model does the work
Each installed model is graded for memory work by the truth matrix. The model already loaded for chat does the remembering when it meets the grade; a small helper model is offered only when no installed model is good enough, and nothing is loaded just for memory work. Recalling earlier conversations, notes and documents by meaning uses the memory component, EmbeddingGemma-300M, which the app offers once.
One honest note: an AI set to an online model, when no local model is warm and the helper is not installed, has its facts extracted by that online model. Tidying, the portrait of you and everything else in memory never leave this computer.
What stays true, by construction
- Every entry is visible, editable, and deletable - including the summary your AIs receive.
- Anything you told an AI directly can never be overwritten by something it merely inferred.
- Forgetting an entry forgets it on every device you own.
- All of it is encrypted in your records and survives your laptop.
